Diverticulitis Diet Recipe

Diverticulitis Diet Recipe

Diverticulitis is a condition that causes the diverticula in your digestive tract to become inflamed and infected. Diverticula, or bulging pockets, form throughout your body, but are most common in the intestines. It causes abdominal pain and discomfort as well as changes in your bowel movements that include blood in the stool. Severe cases often require surgery, but dietary changes often help correct the condition. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Foods

Peeling and seeding foods like tomatoes can help ease bouts of diverticulitis.

Eating right and living a healthy lifestyle is necessary when suffering from diverticulitis, because certain foods can exacerbate the problem. Eating foods that have seeds and nuts can be dangerous, because seeds can scrape the diverticula in your body and cause internal bleeding or other painful issues. Stick to a clear or liquid diet during a bout of diverticulitis to prevent further irritation. Foods and beverages like broths, pulp-free fruit juice and plain gelatin are good during a flare-up. Eating low fiber foods like eggs, smooth peanut butter and cooked pealed and seeded vegetables is ideal when suffering from this condition.

Breakfast

Prepare a healthy breakfast with the following ingredients: 2 large organic eggs, 4 slices of lean bacon, 3 small peeled Irish potatoes, 2 slices of white bread and a tbsp of sweet cream butter. Cook your bacon for about five minutes on each side, on medium heat. Cook it until it is done but limp because crispy and hard meats will irritate your bowels. Boil the peeled potatoes until they are soft. Frying the potatoes will create crispy edges that may have the same effect on your digestive system as seeds and hard meats. Toast the white bread just enough to give it a slightly crispy texture, and spread the cream butter on the slices. Finish by cooking the eggs in the bacon grease.

Dinner

Prepare a meal your whole family can enjoy while sticking to your diverticulitis diet. Gather the following fresh and organic ingredients: 3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, 1 yellow onion, 1 pound of unbleached spiral pasta, 1 can of cream of mushroom soup, 2 cups of broccoli florets, 1 cup of peeled and seeded zucchini and a cup of freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Combine all of the ingredients into a deep skillet with four cups of hot water and let it boil, covered for 20 minutes. Add 1/2 cup of 2% milk to the pan and let it simmer for an additional 30 minutes. Serve this healthy meal with french bread and a bowl of bacon and spinach salad.
