How to Lower High Triglycerides

High triglycerides are fat particles in your blood stream. When the triglycerides are high on a blood test, the condition can increase your risk of heart disease or stroke. Along with the high triglycerides, you will also find a high level of total cholesterol. Some people with obesity or diabetes problems, most often have high cholesterol. When tricglycerides are at a low level, it is determined that the person has low cholesterol. Diet plays a major role in your triglyceride levels. The following steps will help you determine how you can lower your total cholesterol, which will also lower your high triglycerides.

    Lower your intake of simple sugars and grain products. These foods have a negative effect on insulin levels.

    Eat green, leafy vegetables. These types of vegetables have a low glycemic index, which does not have a negative effect on your metabolism.

    Exercise. Cardiovascular exercise has a positive effect on lowering your trigylceride levels, and reducing your risk of heart disease.

    Take an oral medication, known as a statin which is prescribed by your doctor.
