High Triglyceride Symptoms

Triglycerides are a group of fatty compounds that circulate through the bloodstream. High triglycerides (or hypertriglyceridemia) put you at risk of developing serious medical conditions. While heredity factors are the number one cause of high triglycerides, a diet high in saturated fat can increase triglyceride levels. High triglycerides may not produce symptoms until heart disease has set in; however, very high levels can produce warning symptoms.

Chest Pain

When high levels of triglycerides lead to coronary heart disease, symptoms can include chest pain.

Cholesterol

High triglycerides can result in cholesterol being deposited beneath the skin or eyes (xanthomas).

Skin Damage

Extremely high triglyceride levels can result in skin damage on knees and elbows.

Pancreas

High triglycerides can result in inflammation of the pancreas.

Treatment

Limiting the consumption of processed foods, simple sugars, alcohol and saturated fats can help lower high triglycerides.
