Plenty of fiber is essential for proper bowel function. Bacteria thrive on sugar, so avoiding added sugars such as those found in chocolate, cakes, cookies, and soda drinks, is also recommended. Drinking sufficient water will help with hydration and balance the stomachs mucous layer.

Taking a pro-biotic supplement, such as Lactobacillus acidophilus or Lactobacillus salivarius, will help prevent the bacteria colonizing, and also keep it from attaching to cell walls. Pro-biotics are also found in natural live yogurt. Drinking green tea, black tea, or red wine has also been shown to fight against this infection.
